Sperm donor fees – changes to payment

February 2012

From 1 April 2012, men who choose to become sperm donors will be paid £35 per sperm donation. Previously men could not receive payment for donating sperm, but could be paid up to £250 to cover expenses and loss of earnings. The change in compensation payments to sperm donors was recently announced by the HFEA as a means to revolutionise how sperm donors receive financial remuneration for donating their gametes.

Sperm donors play a vital role at IVF Scotland by offering people seeking fertility treatment the chance to have a family when the male partner's sperm may not be suitable, or for singles and people in same-sex relationships when a male partner is not available.
