At Spire Roding Hospital, Redbridge (situated on the border of East London and Essex), we offer gastric sleeve surgery (also known as 'sleeve gastrectomy'), which is undertaken by specialist consultant weight loss surgeons.
Gastric sleeve surgery can reduce the excess weight of an obese patient by about 50 - 60%. This can be done as a procedure on its own or as part of a procedure called a duodenal switch.
All weight loss surgery at Spire Roding is carried out in a clean, comfortable and private environment.

The gastric sleeve procedure involves removing around ¾ of the stomach along its greater curve, so that it takes the shape of a narrow tube or sleeve. This effectively restricts the stomach capacity without affecting its function, so that the amount of food that can be eaten at one time is restricted. (This differs to the gastric bypass procedure, which affects the way food is absorbed.)
At Spire Roding Hospital, weight loss surgery is carried out by some of the most highly experienced, specialist consultant laparoscopic upper GI surgeons available, with a combined experience of over 500 surgical weight-loss procedures. Our multi-disciplinary clinical team approach also helps to ensure that our private patients can access the right advice and support throughout all stages of their weight loss surgery.
As well as the gastric sleeve operation, we offer a range of obesity surgery procedures for private patients, including gastric band surgery, gastric bypass surgery and the insertion of gastric balloons. All weight loss surgical procedures at Spire Roding are offered as fully inclusive packages, which include a full year’s follow up with our multi-disciplinary specialist bariatric team. This includes access to the consultant surgeon and the Bariatric nurse when necessary.
