Mrs Sabrina Shah-Desai is a consultant ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon at Queen’s Hospital, Romford, Essex and at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood and Spire Roding private hospital in Redbridge, both in Essex, where she offers private eye surgery and non-surgical treatments.
Sabrina Shah-Desai qualified as an ophthalmologist from Bombay in 1993 and went on to complete three sub-specialty fellowships in the UK, including a fellowship in Cornea and Oculoplastics at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead (1996-1997), where she developed extensive expertise in managing periocular trauma, chemical burns and ocular surface diseases. This experience has given her an expert knowledge of the eyelids and the cornea.
This was followed by a joint oculoplastic fellowship at Salisbury and Southampton Eye Units (1998) and at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (2000-2001), specialising in techniques of plastic surgery as it relates to the eye and their surrounding structures. She has expertise in the management of eyelid, lacrimal and socket disorders, based on her experience as a consultant oculoplastic surgeon in Bombay, India, (2001-2003) and as an oculoplastic associate specialist at Moorfields Eye Hospital (2004-2010).
She undertook a secondment fellowship at the multidisciplinary craniofacial unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, in 2009 in order to hone her skills in mid-facelift, brow lifts and other aesthetic rejuvenating procedures.
Her clinical and research interests include thyroid eye disease, facial palsy, blepharospasm and periocular cancers. She has innovated and developed many surgical modifications, including a graded technique of anterior approach lid lowering. This was voted best oral presentation at the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society in June 2010.
Sabrina is an invited speaker at international conferences, has contributed to numerous scientific papers and has written text book chapters. She enjoys training and teaching budding oculoplastic surgeons.
