Mr Koak is an experienced Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) & Bariatric (weight loss) surgeon. He qualified from the University of Glasgow with MBChB in 1990, and did his Basic Surgical training at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
After this training period, Mr Koak joined Royal Free Hospital in London to do Master of Surgery at the University of London. His Specialist Registrar training was in the London Deanery. After his CCST, he spent 1 year as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Australia, learning advanced Upper GI & Bariatric surgery.
Mr Koak joined Homerton University Hospital in east London as Consultant Bariatric and Upper GI Surgeon, with the intention of contributing as much as he could to patient care. Homerton's Bariatric Surgical Unit serves the largest number of patients in UK.
Among Mr Koak's current clinical interests are single-port and minimal-access surgery.

Currently, I am doing an Executive MBA at the Judge School, University of Cambridge. After qualifying, I will be able to apply this knowledge into the business & management side of health care.
During my Fellowship in Australia, I developed an interest in th didgeridoo and now I enjoy playing it with my children!
Outside medicine, my other interest is researching the connection of the Indus Valley civilisation to the myth of Atlantis.
I also enjoy playing cricket!
