Background Information 
Professional profile:
Mr Shafi Ahmed qualified from Kings College Hospital Medical School in 1993 and trained in London. He undertook a period of research at the Royal London Hospital investigating the genetics of colorectal cancer and was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Barts and the London NHS Trust in 2007.

Mr Ahmed works in the Centre for Academic Surgery and is developing laparoscopic colorectal surgery within the trust and is also leading the enhanced recovery pathway for patients undergoing major surgery. In addition, Mr Ahmed is an Honorary Senior Lecturer and the surgical lead for development and delivery of the undergraduate surgical curriculum at Barts and the London Medical School. He is also an Educational Supervisor at the Royal College of Surgeons and is actively involved in appointing, educating and training future surgeons.
Personal profile:
Mr Shafi Ahmed is married with two children who lives locally to Spire Roding Hospital. He is an alumni of Chadwell Heath High School and Redbridge Technical College. He is a keen sportsman and plays regular football and cricket and is life-long supporter and season ticket holder of West Ham United.
