Mr Ballaro qualified from the Royal Free Hospital Medical School and University College, London, and undertook general surgical training on the Oxford rotation. He gained FRCS in 1999, and after being awarded both MSc and MD degrees in Urology and a British Urological Foundation Scholarship he undertook higher urological training on the North London Training Scheme. He received further subspeciality training in endourology and laparoscopic urological surgery from nationally and internationally recognized experts, and was awarded CCST and entered on the GMC specialist register in 2008.
Before taking up his current post at BHR (Barking, Havering and Redbridge) NHS Trust to pursue his interest in endourology, Mr Ballaro was consultant urologist to the Royal Free Hospital. He runs a high quality general urological service and sub-specialises in laser and percutaneous stone surgery, and upper urinary tract laparoscopy for both benign and malignant disease. He is developing the endourology and stone surgery service at BHR NHS Trust, and is also the lead consultant for urological education in which he has a strong interest. He has a research background in the overactive bladder and has over fifty publications concerning bladder physiology and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Mr Ballaro was awarded a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons for his work on the basic science of bladder dysfunction.
In his practice at Spire Roding Hospital in Redbridge and Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex, Mr Ballaro offers a range of urological treatments, including laser surgery for kidney and bladder stones. At Spire Hartswood Hospital he is also able to offer private lithotripsy to patients with kidney and bladder stones that are suitable for shock wave treatment.
