Against the current financial trend, Spire Roding Hospital is continuing to invest heavily in to the local hospital in Redbridge, and has just launched one of the region’s most contemporary MRI scanners with the help of Newham ambassador and six-time Olympian, Tessa Sanderson CBE, and east London-based Richard House Children’s Hospice.
The MRI suite marks the hospital’s continued investment in providing the very best services to the local area. Tessa was the natural choice for the hospital, due to her strong links with the local community and her sporting background. The MRI scanner will also form a central part of the hospital’s diagnosis and treatment of sporting injuries, which Tessa herself will have had first-hand experience of during her career.
“Since the installation of the new state-of-the-art MRI scanner at Spire Roding Hospital, along with the introduction of PACS, my consultations have been revolutionised,” comments Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for Spire Roding Hospital, Mr Sunil Kumar MBBS, FRCS (Eng), FRCSI, FRCS (Orth), Dip Sports Med (Ed). “The high quality images provide much clearer visualisation of the anatomy, making it much easier to identify the abnormalities and thus improving the accuracy of diagnoses. The images are also easy for the patients to see and understand and they no longer have to take my word for it!! In my view it is a major improvement in the quality of service we can offer to local patients.”
On Monday 27 April, Tessa was joined at the event by Manjeet Boporai, Community Fundraiser at the Richard House Children’s Hospice, who accepted a cheque from the hospital for £1,500 as a result of fundraising from the recent Newham Classic 10k run. The charity run, which took place on Sunday 19 April, featured 1000 runners, one of which was Radiology Manager Tony Turner.
“The new MRI wing is the latest phase in an extensive refurbishment at the Spire Roding Hospital,” comments Hospital Director, Andy Wood. “However, this is only the beginning of a long-term ongoing investment into this local hospital, both in-front and behind the scenes. I believe that the programme in place will allow our hospital to continue to offer the very best in comfortable, convenient, private healthcare for local people.”
