As the final part of a £4 million investment in diagnostic equipment, Spire Roding Hospital has unveiled a state-of-the-art CT suite which houses the latest Toshiba Aquilion 64-slice CT scanner which provides unmatched imaging speed, supporting rapid diagnosis and faster access to treatment programmes for a variety of health conditions including cancer.
The suite was officially opened by Olympic gold medallist, Tessa Sanderson CBE, who has recently been treated at the hospital for a recurring sports injury to her back. As well as launching the suite, the Redbridge-based sports star will be offering the young sporting talent at the Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy in Newham ready access to diagnosis and care at the hospital.
Tessa Sanderson explains: “I have been treated at the hospital since I ruptured my Achilles tendon in 1981 and have always found the treatment and service to be first class. I am delighted to launch the CT suite which will offer quick diagnosis and treatment to all. My links to the hospital will also benefit the young local sporting talent at my foundation and academy, providing them with reassurance that if they get hurt, they can get ready access to the ultimate in diagnosis and care.”
The unveiling of the CT suite is the culmination of a £4 million diagnostic investment for Spire Roding Hospital which began a year ago to the day with the launch of its MRI scanner. Over the last year, the hospital has introduced the world’s first dual X-ray and fluoroscopy scanner, Extra-corporeal shockwave treatment, a digital imaging system that provides access within minutes to all diagnostic imaging, as well as the latest MRI and CT scanners.
Andy Wood, hospital director at Spire Roding Hospital comments: “The new CT suite will offer excellent scan quality, convenient appointment times six days a week and a comfortable environment for patients. It helps us to provide rapid diagnosis and quality care to our patients, as well as offering our consultants a better working environment. It will be available to both privately insured and self-funding patients with a GP referral.”
