Treatment for Overactive Bladders

Botulinum toxin A can be a treatment option for patients with urge incontinence or painful urination. Consultant urologists, Mr Gerald Collins, Mr Richard Montague and Mr Andrew Sinclair are three of the few surgeons in the country who have used botulinum toxin A for overactive bladders. The procedure can be done under local anaesthetic and has produced good results, with patients benefiting immediately after the procedure.

A new treatment for overactive bladders, performed under local anaesthetic.

Botulinum toxin A acts by binding to the nerve endings in muscles, blocking muscle contraction. When injected in to specific muscles, they become paralysed or weakened, but surrounding muscles are left unaffected, allowing for normal muscle function. The effects are reversible over time.
