Defaecating Proctograms Spire Regency Hospital's Consultant Radiologist Dr. Sue Tebby-Lees is one of few radiologists in the north-west to offer defaecating proctograms for the diagnosis of rectal dysfunction. Rectal prolapse and pelvic floor defects are usually defined using this special X-ray called a defaecating proctogram and possibly pressure studies of the back passage. Patients who describe excessive straining, prolonged periods of time on the toilet and a sensation of being unable to empty the bowel fully may be referred for this X-ray. Once the problem has been accurately diagnosed, treatment or surgery is tailored to restore normal anatomy.
