Mr Arif Khan is a Consultant General Surgeon and Colorectal Lead at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Khan is also the Head of Enhance Recovery Programme in Surgery and National Trainer for minimally invasive haemorrhoidal surgery.
Mr Khan is a highly experienced consultant surgeon specialising in laparoscopic (keyhole) general and colorectal surgery. Mr Khan runs a comprehensive service for diagnosis, investigations, medical and surgical management of colorectal conditions. These include colon cancer, haemorrhoids, fistulas and anal fissures. Mr Khan also specilaises in laparoscopic surgery of abdominal and inguinal hernias and galbladder surgery.
Mr Khan undertook surgical training in the London Deanery in the University Hospital London and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1991. Mr Khan completed his specialist training in colorectal surgery in Manchester whilst working at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and gained the Intercollegiate Fellowship in General Surgery.
Mr Khan has a special interest in the Enhance Recovery Programme in Surgery (ERAS); he was awarded an Outstanding Innovation Award in service improvement by the Trust. Mr Khan chairs ERAS teaching sessions for the Registrars and nursing staff. ERAS has improved patient experience and has helped to minimise hospital stay after major colorectal surgery.
Mr Khan is amongst the first few surgeons in the UK to introduce minimally invasive treatment of haemorrhoids and he is now the National Trainer of THD procedure.
