After qualifying in Leeds in 1984, I trained in general and vascular surgery in Leeds and Manchester before being appointed as Consultant General & Vascular Surgeon at Burnley General Hospital in 1998. Two years later I was invited to join the Regional Vascular Unit as Consultant Vascular Surgeon, and I have now worked as a pure vascular surgeon at the South Manchester Teaching Hospital (UHSM) for ten years.
In 2003 I set up the NHS satellite vascular service for Macclesfield and now single-handedly deliver the Macclesfield District General Hospital service, with a weekly clinic.
I have also undertaken the following roles :
1) Clinical Director of Vascular Surgery, UHSM, from 2000-2009
2) Associate Medical Director for the University Hospital of South Manchester since March 2009
3) Programme Director for Quality of Core Surgery Training, North West Deanery. I am passionate about training junior doctors and am in charge of assessments for all junior surgeons in every surgical specialty in all hospitals in the North West
4) UHSM representative on the Higher Surgical Training Committee, North West Deanery
I perform all these roles and maintain a full clinical timetable, I am committed to excellence in the assessment and management of vascular disease. I have also written a number of research papers in the field of vascular disease.
