Fertility Frequently asked Questions

What is infertility?

Infertility is an inability to get pregnant after 12 months of regular sexual intercourse, without the use of protection. This does not mean that you are unable to have children, as fertility investigations and treatments can be provided to help increase the chances of pregnancy.

What is the process?

If you are concerned about failure to conceive, you can book an appointment with our Fertility Specialist. Spire Regency Hospital has a highly qualified consultant gynaecologist Mr Edi-Osagie who has experience in dealing with couples that are trying to conceive. At the consultation, history from both partners will be taken, results of any previous tests are checked to ensure that any outstanding investigations or examinations are completed in order to make the correct diagnosis. This will be discussed with the couple and treatment can then be arranged.

About age

In the past 25 years, the percentage of births to women aged 30 or over has doubled. This trend of delaying childbirth until career or other lifestyle objectives have been achieved has consequences which many women are fully prepared to risk, although a proportion may be insufficiently aware of the decline in fertility which begins in the early 30s. A more steep curve of decline occurs after 35 years of age.

Fertility treatments will vary from patient to patient.
