Our expert ophthalmic surgeons provide a wealth of experience, performing a variety of procedures
In 2007, one of our top eye surgeons, Mr Brendan Moriarty, performed the very first IOL-VIP procedure in the UK, here at Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield. IOL-VIP stands for intraocular lens for visually impaired people. Brendan Moriarty is also a leader in this field, which is the latest treatment for “”dry” age-related macular degeneration. He has performed over 400 of these operations and has been appointed as the Specialist Advisor to NICE regarding IOL-IP.
Our expert ophthalmic surgeons provide a wealth of experience, performing a variety of procedures including “keyhole” refractive cataract surgery, intravitreal injections for wet age-related macular degeneration, oculoplastic surgery, elective laser trabeculoplasty for glaucoma, squint surgery, and laser treatment for floaters as well as minor ops. The department also has a state-of-the-art diagnostic ocular OCT scanner.
There are currently only two eye surgeons in the country who treat floaters, one of whom is at the Spire Regency Hospital.
