Mr Paul Davison, one of our consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeons at the Spire Regency Hospital, outlines what to look for in a cosmetic surgeon.
Paul Davison has been a consultant plastic surgeon for the past 20 years and works privately at the Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield. Paul's work includes breast augmentation and reductions, eyelid surgery, nasal work, tummy tucks and more. Like most cosmetic surgeons he works across numerous different parts of the body, rather than specialising in just one particular area.
The right surgeon will offer important advice for you to make the right decision
Changing lives, building confidence
"The film star approach to surgery is to have little bits done here and there, and I can understand why some people want that. But for most, it’s not a question of having lots of areas changed, it’s about one particular aspect of their body, which may cause them to be very self-conscious, and that perhaps damages their confidence. It’s really nice to treat people like this," says Paul, "because you can see the difference in them afterwards. Cosmetic surgery can be life-changing."
Key qualities to look for in a surgeon
"When choosing a surgeon, it is important to select one who is prepared to listen and communicate with you, and one who can understand your concerns and anxieties, and address them to your satisfaction" Paul says.
"A surgeon needs to offer advice as to whether the surgery is right for you and he has to be honest about whether it ‘s going to deliver the results you expect."
"It is also extremely important to go to a reputable establishment for surgery, and to check out the qualifications of the surgeon, or surgeons, you are considering before agreeing to an operation."
