Labial Reshaping

Some women feel that their labia are too large, causing discomfort during activities such as cycling or walking or during sexual intercourse. This can also occasionally lead to a lack of confidence or low self-esteem. Reshaping of the labia minora (the inner lips of the vagina) can be undertaken as a relatively minor operation, performed as a day case with no overnight stay in hospital and generally short recovery times.

Vaginal laxity

After childbirth, nerve and muscle stretch can affect vaginal muscle tone, often leading to reduced sexual satisfaction for both partners. Generally the most effective way to overcome this is with special pelvic floor exercises under instruction from a physiotherapist. This is sometimes used in combination with counselling and topical oestrogen. When these methods are unsuccessful, some women may benefit from a surgical repair which aims to return the vagina to its pre-pregnancy size and shape.

In addition to the above, after childbirth, the back of the entrance to the vagina can become torn and stretched. Surgical repair of the damaged tissue aims to restore the anatomical shape.

Labial reshaping and vaginal laxity are performed by Cosmetic Surgeons at the Spire Regency Hospital.
