Professor Peter Brennan has been a consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Portsmouth since 2002. In addition to his busy NHS practice, he is also honorary Professor of Surgery and Head of the Academic Department of Surgery, at the University of Portsmouth. He qualified with honours in both medicine (1994) and dentistry (1987) gaining distinctions and winning many prizes in subjects including anatomy, pharmacology, anaesthetics, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and ophthalmology. He was awareded the gold medal for outstanding performance in the intercollegiate exit FRCS examination in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Professor Brennan has published extensively in the specialty with over 170 papers to date. He is an editor of the recently published textbook 'Operative Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery'.
He regularly lectures throughout the world and has a yearly commitment to demonstrating and teaching advanced head and neck surgery in India and an academy has been established in his honour. He has won a multitude of prizes and accolades for his work including a prestigious Hunterian Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the BAOMS Surgery prize, awarded annually to an outstanding consultant maxillofacial surgeon of 10 years standing or less. He is commited to teaching, education and maintaining the highest possible standard of patient care. He is an examiner for both surgical (MRCS) and medical undergraduate exams, and is currently the Honorary Editor of the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
