Background Information 
Professional profile:
Following undergraduate training at Birmingham University Medical School, I joined the Royal Navy as a Medical Officer serving on board HMS Bristol during the Falklands Campaign. I was appointed Consultant Ophthamologist to the Royal Navy's primary casualty receiving ship RFA Argus during the first Gulf War (1991).

I trained in Ophthamology at a number of the UK's leading eye hospitals including Moorfields and Addenbrooke's, Cambridge.

In 1990 I became Consultant Ophthamologist and Advisor to the Medical Director General (Navy). I left the Navy in 1993 to take up my present position of Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

My sub-specialty interests include medical and surgical management of glaucoma and cataract surgery. I've extensive experience of laser refractive surgery performing Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) and LASIK. I was Clinical Director of LaserVision (Europe) 2004 to 2006.

I am the Wessex region representative of the Ophthalmic Group Committee of the British Medical Association and regularly lecture to ophthalmologists in training, GP's, optometrists, nurses and medical students. I have been the Chairman of the Corporate Speciality Education Committee in Ophthalmology and Programme Director for Ophthalmic training in Wessex.
