Mr Hugh Clarke has been a consultant in trauma and orthopaedics in the East Hampshire and West Sussex region since 1994. He graduated from the Middlesex Hospital in London and did his specialist higher surgical training in orthopaedics at the Wessex Orthopaedic Hospital and Southampton University Hospitals. He undertook a Research and Clinical Fellowship in lower limb joint reconstruction at John Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1988. Mr Clarke has published extensively on research in bone grafting joint replacement surgery, the biomechanic of ankle injuries and outcomes in revision hip replacement surgery. He is also the director of Southern Orthopaedic Services providing contract orthopaedic services to the Southern region.

Mr Clarke was involved in the design of two hip replacements in commercial use in the UK and the United States. He is the designer of the Universal Hip Resurfacing Drape. Mr Clarke uses a wide range of implants for hip and knee replacement surgery. His philosophy has always been to use well tried and tested implants with a good research base. He has a particular interest in Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. He has been one of the first users of the new MRI guided Signature system to optimise alignment and function in knee replacement in the past 10-15 years, particularly for young and active patients.

Mr Clarke's outside interests including fishing, cricket, squash and supporting his children's sporting interests.
