I qualified as a doctor from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1992 and trained as a specialist surgeon on the Wessex Orthopaedic Rotation. I had the opportunity to develop my expertise in shoulder and elbow surgery by undertaking a fellowship in France with Professor Pascal Boileau, one of the world's leading shoulder and arthroscopic surgeons.

My orthopaedic practice concentrates exclusively on conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. I favour key hole techniques where possible and now carry out more than three quarters of operations arthroscopically.

My research interests include arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, reverse geometry shoulder replacement and complex ligament injuries of the elbow. I've published articles in leading orthoapedic journals and presented at a variety of national and international conferences. I've been invited to write a chapter on reverse geometry shoulder replacement for the new edition of the Oxford Textbook of Orthopaedics and Trauma.

In 2005 I was awarded the Charles Neer Award for Shoulder Surgery by the American Shoulder and Elbow Society.

I speak fluent French.

My main interests outside of medicine are my family and sport. I played football and rugby for many years but have now hung up my boots. However I still enjoy windsurfing and the occasional game of tennis when time allows.
