Professional profile:
Mr Farnworth qualified from St George's Hospital, London in 1989, where he specialised in general medicine. He then received his MRCP and completed his general ophthalmic training in Leicester, Cardiff and London. From 1998 to 2000 he was a clinical research fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
He developed a specialist interest in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and macula degeneration - age related. He leads a specialist medical retina clinic at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, but the majority of his workload remains phakoemulsification cataract surgery and the management of glaucoma in his general ophthalmic clinics.

When Mr Farnworth gets the time he enjoys sports - tennis, cricket, golf, hill walking and water colour painting. He is married to a GP who works as clinical assistant in dermatology and has two children.
