Mr Dalton qualified from Birmingham University in 1989 and carried out his basic surgical training in Birmingham as well as a Masters degree in the surgery of trauma. He moved to Glasgow in 1996 for higher surgical training on the West of Scotland orthopaedic rotation.

He completed a year's fellowship in Wellington, New Zealand in 2002, with specialist training in lower limb joint replacement and revision.
He has training and experience in cemented and cementless hip replacement techniques and use both in his arthroplasty practice.

Mr Dalton is married with three children. He has a keen interest in football as a spectator and also participates in skiing, cycling and windsurfing.
