Background Information
Professional profile:
Mr Andrew Langdown graduated from Birmingham and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Oxford. His interest is in primary and revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee. Having worked with some of the foremost authorities in this field in the UK, he undertook a fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction in Sydney, Australia during 2004 with Warwick Bruce, an internationally renowned arthroplasty surgeon. This gave him considerable experience in newer techniques and implants in the field of joint replacement and was combined with practical exposure to clinical and basic science research in this area. He has published and presented on topics within these fields.

As a result of increased patient demand and expectation, the field of lower limb arthroplasty is ever changing. Mr Langdown is committed to a patient-centred approach to orthopaedic surgery ¿ he believes that patients should be fully involved in the decision making process. Nowadays, more and more young patients fulfil the criteria for joint replacement and Mr Langdown has a particular interest in this area. In addition, he has further interests in soft-tissue reconstruction of the knee, knee arthroscopy and the management of orthopaedic trauma: he has sub-specialist experience in this field at consultant level.
Personal profile:
Mr Langdown was born in Hampshire and has now returned together with his wife and two young children. Whilst his family occupies the majority of his time, Mr Langdown also has a wide variety of interests including most sports (particularly football, cricket, rugby and golf), DIY, literature and music.

He is involved in the development of the STEP programme for the education of trainee surgeons. He believes surgeons have a duty to provide the highest quality of care at all times; in this context surgeons¿ own continuing professional development is closely linked with that of trainees.
