Tim Trebble is a general gastroenterologist with a special interest in diseases of the stomach and intestine including inflammatory bowel disease, cancer and intestinal failure. He commonly accepts referrals for patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms including rectal bleeding, altered bowel habit, diarrhoea and weight loss. Tim leads the Clinical Nutrition support team for Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, advises on management of intestinal failure and complex gastrointestinal disorders, and works closely with both upper and lower gastrointestinal surgeons.
Tim is now Chief of Service at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, with a variety of interests in how patients are managed in healthcare. He has undertaken extensive research into the patient experience and patient preferences on which he has published in the medical literature. He follows a holistic approach to patient management focusing on the patients individual needs.
Tim qualified from Kings College Hospital, London but trained predominantly within the Wessex region in gastroenterology. He undertook a comprehensive period of research into inflammation, osteoporosis, and nutrition in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Institute of Human Nutrition, University of Southampton, that lead to several national and international scientific publications, three research awards and numerous national and international scientific presentations. The experience gained from clinical trials offered invaluable exposure to the social, psychological and physiological consequences of inflammatory bowel disease on patients, and the importance of patient education, support and involvement in management decisions. This has greatly influenced his approach to patient care.
