Background Information
Professional profile:
Professor Anoop Chauhan is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with specific clinical interests in the treatment of patients with asthma (and related allergic disorders), infection and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He also sees many patients with general respiratory diseases as part of my practice, including undiagnosed respiratory symptoms and suspected lung cancers. He is the lead clinician for airways diseases in Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, and has developed services for patients with such chronic disorders.

Professor Chauhan's main research work has been on the influence of the environment on virus related exacerbations of asthma, and in particular the link between infection, air pollution and asthma. His recent research has been on the indoor environment in asthma in studies of children, adolescents and adults with asthma. He is also undertaking novel randomised-controlled studies of modern allergen free healthy homes in allergic asthma, and new injectable biological therapies in patients with severe asthma.

He also leads a local airways strategy group aimed at improving the care of patients with airways diseases by promoting good practice and education and a multi-disciplinary approach to managing respiratory diseases across the district.

He has written local guidelines in the management of asthma and COPD, is a member of the national British Thoracic Society Research Committee to promote research into respiratory diseases and has been an international advisor to the World Health Organisation and an author on the effects of the environment on respiratory infections.
Personal profile:
Professor Chauhan is married with 5 children and when not working or ferrying the children, he is a keen cricketer and still plays competitive local league cricket in the Hampshire Leagues.
