Facial implants

Implants are commonly used to change and improve the appearance of your facial ‘bone structure’ and to add definition to your cheeks or chin.

If you have a receding chin or feel that it is not in proportion with the rest of your features, a chin implant can improve your jaw line and balance the shape of your face.

Implants can create a more sculptured look to your cheeks by making the cheekbones look fuller and higher.

Lines and wrinkles may also be addressed using implants, typically the naso-labial folds (the lines between the corners of the mouth and the nose) or implants can be used to enhance the shape of your lips.

Implant surgery is sometimes performed at the same time as other cosmetic procedures such as a facelift or nose-reshaping to reshape the face and maximise the results.

Other surgical and non-surgical alternatives including fat transfer or dermal fillers can also be effective in achieve facial re-shaping and rejuvenation. You can discuss the look you want achieve with your consultant who will advise you on the most suitable procedures for the best results.

What to expect

Facial treatments are specifically tailored to the needs of each individual and when you meet with one of our cosmetic nurses or a consultant they will explain the results you can expect from the procedures.

Cheek surgery builds on your existing bone structure by placing an implant over the top of your cheekbones. Chins are built out by inserting an implant over the chin bone. Both types of implant are usually inserted through an incision made inside your mouth. This technique means there will be no visible scarring.

Chin implant surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure. Cheek implants may be performed under general or local anaesthetic.

After your surgery you will usually be able to return home later the same day, and will need to plan time off work to rest and recover.

You consultant will give you guidance on post-surgery recovery and care before your procedure and will schedule follow up appointments for dressings and check-ups. Your final check-up with your consultant is usually two months after surgery, although further after-care appointments are available, at no extra charge, if required.
