Cholesterol level test at Spire Parkway Hospital

Check your level of risk in developing a range of health problems.

The level of cholesterol in our blood is an important factor in the risk of developing a range of health problems - including heart disease and stroke.

We offer a blood test in which one of our experienced and dedicated nurses will take a blood sample to be analysed in our modern laboratories.

Why you might need it

Assessing your cholesterol levels should be part of any health assessment. High cholesterol can occur if you have an unhealthy diet and don't exercise regularly. You might also wish to know you are at risk to encourage yourself to make healthier lifestyle choices. Test your cholesterol regularly if you have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease.

Who will do it?

Our patients are at the heart of what we do and we want you to be in control of your care.

All of our nurses are of the highest standard and benefit from working in our modern, well-equipped hospitals.

Before your treatment

You will have a formal consultation with a healthcare professional. During this time you will be able to explain your medical history, symptoms and raise any concerns that you might have.

We will also discuss with you whether any further diagnostic tests, such as scans or blood tests, are needed. Any additional costs will be discussed before further tests are carried out.

The procedure

A nurse will take a sample of blood from a vein in your arm.

The process will only take a minute or two and you'll be able to leave immediately. Some people do faint or feel as though they might faint during or straight after the test. If that affects you, our caring and dedicated staff will ensure you are alright before you leave.

Aftercare

The availability of results will vary by location. A follow up appointment will be arranged with your consultant to discuss the result and any further treatment you may require.
