Background Information
Professional profile:
Mr Remo Papini is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the
University Hospital Birmingham, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and
Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust. He has a general plastic
and cosmetic surgery practice with sub-speciality interests in cosmetic
surgery, burns and scars and skin cancer. His research interests include tissue engineering and cell culture.

Remo holds fellowships in plastic surgery and is a member of the British
Association of Plastic Surgeons, the British Burn Association and the Tissue and Cell Engineering Society.

He graduated in 1984 at the Royal Free Hospital in London and obtained
his Surgical Fellowship in 1990. Having completed six years of plastic surgery training in Chepstow, Newcastle and Liverpool and two and a half years research at Mount Vernon Hospital, London, he then undertook a post-graduate burns fellowship in Perth, Western Australia.

He has been a consultant plastic surgeon and burns unit director
since 1999. During his training Remo gained experience in a wide variety of reconstructive and aesthetic techniques, including the use of lasers. His cosmetic surgery interests include tummy tucks, thigh and arm reduction, breast augmentation and reduction, upper and lower eyelid reduction, liposuction, nose reshaping and prominent ear correction. He also carries out removal of cysts, moles and skin
cancers, as well as soft tissue augmentation and Botox injections.

Remo is a third generation Italian who is married with four children. His hobbies include cooking and the collection of Roman antiquities.
Personal profile:
I am a third generation Italian who enjoys many things about the country of my forefathers, but particularly the cuisine!

In my spare time, I previously enjoyed rowing and hill walking but have less time for these now that I have three children. I am fascinated by all things related to life in ancient Rome and have a small collection of antiquities.

My research interests relate to the use of new technologies for resurfacing wounds and scars, and I have recently re-opened our skin culture laboratory. I have created a burn research fellowship in collaboration with the Biomaterials Department at Birmingham University, and the research is directed towards improving cultured cell interactions with biomaterials.
