Mr Bowley is a consultant general surgeon at The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust and a Senior Lecturer in the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine. He qualified in 1990 at St Thomas’s Hospital, London. After house-jobs and an Emergency Medicine post he was a Regimental Medical Officer with the Parachute Regiment for two years. He has subsequently enjoyed a broad training in general surgery and trauma both within the UK overseas. Mr Bowley has undertaken colorectal sub-speciality training at Oxford and St Mark’s Hospital in London. He was appointed as a consultant surgeon in 2005.

His special interests cover the range of general, colorectal surgery and general paediatric surgery. He is a serving member of Her Majesty’s Defence Medical Services and regularly deploys in surgical support of UK armed forces. He has an extensive experience of both military and civilian trauma. Mr Bowley has an active interest in clinical research and has published a dozen book chapters and more than 60 research papers. He is on the teaching faculty for a number of postgraduate medical courses and is part of the steering Committee of the Definitive Surgical Trauma Skills Course of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr Bowley is married to Cara and has two sons Joshua and Matthew. He is an enthusiastic numismatist with a special interest in coins of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek.
