Renal Transplantation: Accute Rejection & Immunosupression

My clinical practice comprises of three distinct areas:

1. Endocrine Surgery: Parathyroid, Thyroid & Adrenal Surgery

2. General Surgery: laparoscopic Cholycystectomy, Hernia Repair & additional minor General Surgery.

3. The more specialised area of renal transplantation with an increasing commitment to providing living donor transplantation.

I am a local man, being born less than 5 miles from Parkway Hospital. I grew up in and around Birmingham and Solihull and still live in the borough. I trained in Medicine at the University of Birmingham Medical School and did my post-graduate training in General Surgery around the West Midlands. During this time I also performed research into the immunology of transplant rejection gaining both Masters and Doctorate degrees. I was subsequently a postdoctoral research fellow at Sanford University in California, USA. I have been a Consultant Surgeon at the University Hospital Birmingham since 1995.

When not working, I like to spend as much time as possible with my children, both of whom have attended Solihull School.

My hobbies include music, painting and trying to keep fit! I travel extensively and enjoy my role as Medical Director of the charity 'Transplant Links' that supports the development of sustainable renal transplant programs in the developing world.
