      Background Information
      Professional profile:

Dr Dev Banerjee is a consultant at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital in the Department of Respiratory Medicine. Since 2004 he has run the department, which is the largest sleep clinic in the Midlands, with over 1400 referrals for sleep disorders.

In 2004, Dr Banerjee set up the sleep clinic at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull and treats over 100 patients a year. 2009 saw the expansion of this service to the Spire Droitwich Clinic to serve patients with sleep disorders in the Worcestershire, South West Midland area and beyond.

Waiting times for clinic appointments are less than 10 days, with respiratory monitoring (done at the patients home) the same night, with results the next day by email. CPAP therapy can also be arranged from the clinic. The process of private referral to treatment can be less than 3 weeks, compared to 18 weeks on the NHS.

      Personal profile:

Born in South Wales, but growing up in Leeds, Dr Banerjee completed his medical training in the West Midlands in 2003. Dr Banerjee and his family moved to Sydney to work at the famous Royal Prince Alfred Sleep Unit, returning from Australia in 2004 after a period of 14 months. Since then he has moved to Solihull but keeps an active interest in local matters important to local residents. During the last few years, Dr Banerjee has had numerous TV and Radio appearances including The Real Story with Fiona Bruce (BBC1), Don't Die Young (BBC 2), GMTV Live with Hilary Jones (ITV) and recently finished filming for the 3rd series of Embarrasing Bodies (Channel 4). Radio interviews include Radio 4, BBC Radio WM (Ed Doolan show) and BBC Radio Leeds. Currently Dr Banerjee is working closely with the Department for Transport on road safety and sleepiness.
