Dr Huissoon studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin. After obtaining his PhD at the University of Birmingham in 1996. He trained in Immunology at Nottingham, before returning to Birmingham to take up a consultant post in 2001.
Dr Huissoon's main professional interests are the diagnosis and management of allergy and immune deficiencies, and he publishes research and review articles in these areas.
