Adult circumcision

What is adult circumcision?

Circumcision is a simple operation to remove the foreskin from the penis. Circumcision is usually done if the foreskin can’t be pulled back, or if it isn’t possible to pull it forward again.

During a circumcision the foreskin is pulled forward and trimmed away. The skin edges are stitched together, and a loose dressing is usually applied. The stitches are usually dissolvable and do not need to be removed. The operation usually takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Circumcision is usually performed under general anaesthesia (but can also be performed using local anaesthetic). It is routinely carried out as a daycase, with no overnight stay.
