I qualified as a doctor from Cambridge University Medical School in 1980, having graduated from St. Johns College Cambridge. I soon decided on a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and under went training at Queen Charlottes Hospital in London, Nottingham City Hospital and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh before being appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Norfolk with a special interest in infertility. I have developed and maintained many skills over the past 20 years. I am a recognised RCOG Preceptor (trainer) in laparoscopic surgery, a British Fertility Society accredited trainer in trans-vaginal ultrasound and passed the Advanced Diploma in Obstetric Ultrasound (RCOG, RCR) in 1997. I have recently been appointed as an Examiner for the Part II MRCOG by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
My main passion is the care, investigation and treatment of infertile couples.
I progressively developed the most extensive District Hospital NHS Infertility Service in East Anglia. I was the person responsible for the HFEA Licensed Centre at Spire Norwich Hospital 1998 - 2000 and the person responsible for the HFEA Licensed Centre at the James Paget Hospital 2000 - 2012. As Lead Clinician on the East of England Specialised Commissioning Group, I was proud to announce the introduction of the first NICE compliant NHS funded Infertility Service, in the East of England in the summer of 2008 (3 IVF cycles for appropriate couples).
The constant squeeze on NHS funding and the revision of the criteria which has denied treatment to many couples contributed to my decision to leave the NHS. I have set up a Subfertility Clinic based at Spire Norwich Hospital in order to continue offering a service to infertile couples in this region.
