Mr Sargen graduated from Sheffield. Subsequent junior surgical training was in the South Yorkshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Two years were then spent in Plymouth studying and undertaking research for his MD. Higher surgical training was mostly in the East Anglian region, but he has also trained in South Australia. He spent a year at the royal Adelaide Hospital, where he was Fellow in Colorectal Surgery and developed an interest and specialist practice in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
