Am Rai graduated from Southampton University in 1990. He has been a Consultant Orthopaedic/Spinal Surgeon at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and Spire Norwich Hospital, Norwich since April 2001. Most of Mr Rai’s training was undertaken in the South of England and Spinal Fellowships in Australia, South Africa, America and Europe. He was also awarded a European Travelling Fellowship in 2002. This gave Mr Rai the opportunity to gain personal training from some of the most eminent spinal surgeons gaining a depth and breadth of experience that has formed the basis of his personal expertise.
Mr Rai’s spinal practice is broad based, including all aspects of spinal pathology, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar disc disease, adult and paediatric scoliosis, trauma and tumour reconstruction. He has a very busy clinical practice receiving referrals from all over East Anglia. Mr Rai works closely with other specialities which include physiotherapy, pain clinic, oncologists, neurologists and rheumatologists to be able to offer a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of spinal conditions and further afield. (He is involved in 500-600 operative cases a year).
Mr Rai is the author of many original research papers into spinal conditions. He has featured in newspaper articles and has been the subject of a documentary on the Discovery Channel for the innovative work performed at The Norfolk & Norwich Foundation Hospital NHS Trust. He regularly attends spinal meetings and gives lectures both on the national and international circuit.
