Background Information
Professional profile:
Dr Cockburn trained in radiology at the Hammersmith Hosptial. In 1994 he was the William Cook Fellow in Interventional Radiology. Following this he did an MRI Fellowship in the Austin Repatriation Hospital in Melbourne, Australia in 1995/6. His area of special interest in diagnostic radiology is upper gastrointestinal (oesophageal, gastric, liver and pancreatic) cancer and he is the radiology lead for these tumours at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, in addition to being a general radiologist (and partner in the Colney Radiology Group).

At Spire Norwich Hospital, Dr Cockburn maintains this general interest whilst also performing interventional techniques including Hickman line insertion, nephrostomy and ureteric stent insertion and biliary drainage and metal stent insertion. He also offers an oeophageal, duodenal and colonic stent insertion service as well as gastrostomy, implantable port insertion and percutaneous biopsy and drainage. He is actively involved in radiofrequency tumour ablation which offers patients, who are unfit for operation, a minimally invasive cancer treatment, which is well tolerated.
Personal profile:

Dr Cockburn won the 2007 NHS National Innovation Award for Medical Devices, with the invention: Bimodal Electric Tissue Ablation (BETA). In his spare time he is interested in physical fitness and music composition of bass guitar.
