Having obtained my higher Ophthalmic qualifications (FRCS Ed and FRCOphth), I gained a comprehensive Ophthalmic training at the North Thames rotation where I worked at Moorfields Eye Hospitals, University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospitals from 1992 to 1998. My subspecialist training comprised two years of clinical Fellowship at two renowned American institues with certificates in Cornea and External Eye Diseases from the University of Rochester, New York in 1989 and in Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology from Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia in 2001. These included related research with serveral publications. I started my career as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in 1998. I specialise in sutureless small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery with intraocular lens implant having performed around three thousand such procedures which include refractive surgery for astigmatism. I also specialise in adult penetrating keratoplasty and anterior segment reconstruction as well as glaucoma treatment and surgery (trabeculectomy and combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy). My other area of specialisation is strabismus (squint) surgery particularly adult strabismus with adjustable sutures and superior and inferior oblique muscle surgery.

My interests include travelling, sports and reading particularly history and philosophy. I regularly support charitable hospitals in Egypt
