I trained in the late 1970's at the Northern College of Chiropody in Salford. Later I worked at the Northern College as a lecturer and undertook my MSc with Salford University before moving to Huddersfield in 1990 as a Senior Lecturer. I undertook my surgical training and gained Fellowship of the Surgical Faculty of the College of Podiatrists in 1995.
My academic career gained momentum and I took over course leadership at the University in 1997 prior to being made Head of Division in 2004. In 2008, I moved part time into NHS surgical practice in Mid Yorkshires Hospital Trust working as the Trusts Consultant Podiatrist. This was an expansion of my previous surgical commitments within the Trust. I have thus now come full circle being back in main stream clinical and surgical practice but still enjoying teaching on a part time basis where I am still closely involved with both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Division especially with regards to the MSc Theory of Podiatric Surgery.
I have spent 30 years in the field of foot care with a proven track record as a clinician and educator. Podiatric Surgery is well established in Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust where I lead the service. I was appointed Honorary Consultant in 2001 and joined the staff on a substantive contract in 2008. Having 15 years experience performing surgical procedures on the forefoot under local, regional and general anesthesia, I have a particular interest in bunion and soft tissue surgery in the forefoot and have lectured internationally on the uses of local anaesthetics in the foot.
I am a surgical tutor in Faculty of Surgery, College of Podiatrists.
Away from my work I enjoy music, travel, food, cricket and football.
