I qualified in 1982. I trained in Gastroenterology in Birmingham and Sheffield. I have been working as a consultant in General Medicine and Gastroenterology since 1999.
I manage patients with all gastrointestinal and liver problems including Dyspepsia, reflux diseases, mal-absorption, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, alcohol related liver disease and abnormal liver function.
I have special interest in bowel diseases and chronic diarrhoea.
I am the only accredited consultant in Barnsley to undertake Bowel Cancer Screening. I also provide a full therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy services including removal of large polyps and endoscopic mucosal resection.
I am the Yorkshire and Humber representative on the Clinical Service and Standards Committee of the British Society of Gastroentrology.
I have a great passion for medical education. I did a Masters Degree at Sheffield University that helped me to develop professionalism in the field. I am an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and a faculty on the regional colonoscopy-training courses. I am also an assistant professor with St. Matthews University. I was until recently the Royal College of physician tutor.
I believe in close collaboration with colleagues in general practice to ensure effective interface between primary and secondary care. The development of joint protocols, Care-Pathways, educational programmes and audit are embedded into my practice.
