    Professional profile:
    Professor Bundred was appointed as a consultant in the University Hospital of South Manchester in September 1991. He qualified at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then trained in Edinburgh, Leicester, Cardiff and Birmingham before being appointed a Senior Lecturer in Surgical Oncology.

    He was awarded membership of the inaugural National Institute for Health Research Senior Investigator Faculty in 2008. He provides service for large symptomatic, screening and breast surgery practice in the Nightingale Centre, Manchester. He has provided breast reconstruction techniques at the Nightingale Centre since arriving in 1991.

    Professor Bundred's research in Manchester has achieved national recognition by being awarded the Patey Prize on three occasions. He was appointed Hunterian Professor to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1995, which is one of the highest honours they award.

    His research interests include pre-invasive breast cancer (ductal carcinoma in situ), attempting to understand the mechanisms by which ductal carcinoma in situ progresses to invasive breast cancer and techniques to personalise breast cancer treatment.

    In 2001, he was appointed as Professor in Surgical Oncology at the University of Manchester.
    Personal profile:
    Professor Bundred is married to a GP registrar and has four sons. He was educated at Newcastle Royal Grammar School and moved to Manchester in 1991.

    Professor Bundred can be found regularly at the Sunderland Stadium of light watching professional football or walking in the local countryside with his family.
