Mr Murphy graduated in 1992 from medical school and embarked upon his surgical training. In 1996 he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in recognition of this. Having completed his general surgery, he undertook training in plastic surgery both in the UK and abroad in Oxford, London, USA and Australasia.

In 2001 he was awarded the higher post graduate degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) for research carried out at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery, (FRCS (Plast)) in 2002.

Mr Murphy is a fully accredited plastic surgeon and, as such, is entered into the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register for plastic surgery. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). He is currently a consultant plastic surgeon at Christie Hospital, Manchester.

Mr Murphy has published comprehensively within the plastic surgery literature throughout his career and presents his work internationally at plastic surgery conferences. He is actively involved in teaching both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
