Mr Selvasekar works as a colorectal and laparoscopic surgeon at The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and privately at the Spire Manchester Hospital. He practices laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery for benign and malignant colorectal conditions. He has introduced laparoscopic colorectal surgery and enhanced recovery programme at the Christie having previously established the set-up a similar service at the Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
Mr Selvasekar trains other consultants and specialist registrars in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and is one of the national trainers through the Department of Health sponsored programme www.lapco.nhs.uk. He is also an accredited colonoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme and offers regular diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopises. He practices minimally invasive and relatively painless treatment for haemorrhoids and is involved in training (HALO/THD) http://www.thdlab.co.uk. He also offers laparoscopic surgery for abdominal wall hernias.
Mr Selvasekar trained in the North-west region of UK, and did a year of advanced colorectal clinical fellowship at the Mayo clinic, Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.com to learn minimally invasive colorectal surgery and spent two years of clinical research at University College London. He also visited IRCAD centre in Strasbourg http://www.eits.fr/ and University of Chicago http://www.uic.edu as a travelling fellow to widen his clinical experience.
Mr Selvasekar is one of the regional surgical advisors for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is involved in conducting teaching programmes and courses locally. He is also an examiner at the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh. He holds an honorary lecturer contract with the University of Liverpool.
