Professor Ammori took up surgical training in Leeds and Yorkshire. In 1998 he undertook a travelling fellowship to Tokyo, Japan. The Royal College of Surgeons of England granted him a hunterian professorship in 2000 for his academic achievements. By January 2001 he was appointed to the post of consultant surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester.
