Dr Campbell qualified from Birmingham University in 1994.After his initial training, he was offered a research fellowship in Edinburgh where he achieved an MD under the training of Professor Subrata Ghosh examining immunomodulatory therapy in inflammatory bowel disease.In 2001 he achieved a place in the Oxford Deanery where he continued to develop interests in IBD and drug therapy, while getting extensive training in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), coeliac disease as well as interests in advanced endoscopic techniques.In 2004 he undertook an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, receiving training from Professor Tony Morris. He trained in colonoscopy, endomucosal resection as well as running the capsule endoscopy service there.He has published original research and articles in more than 30 international journals, published books and chapters in the field of inflammatory bowel disease. He was appointed at Manchester Royal Infirmary as Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2006. He is an Honorary Senior lecturer at Salford University.
Dr Campbell is an accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme.
