Dr New went to medical school in Newcastle upon Tyne. He trained in Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds before moving to Salford in 1996.
Over the last 10 years I developed the Salford Weight Management Services. This provides a holistic, patient centred, multidisciplinary weight management service where people can receive the most appropriate treatments to help them achieve their weight loss goals. This service includes dieticians, clinical psychologists, nurse specialists and bariatric surgeons. I work closely with Mr Ammori, both at Salford Royal and at the Spire, providing preoperative assessment for people considering bariatric surgery, as well as managing their postoperative care ensuring that conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol are appropriately treated.
I am a co-author on the Royal College of Physicians guidance for the treatment of obesity. I have presented at numerous national meetings about the effective treatments for weight loss in people with and without diabetes.
Within Salford Royal I am involved in the insulin pump clinic and was appointed by the National Technology Appraisal Centre as one of the two national specialists in insulin pump therapy. These guidelines were published in July 2010.
