Out-patients
Following your initial enquiry you will be booked in for an out-patient appointment with the consultant of your choice or as specified in your GP referral. All orthopaedic consultants have instant access to radiology results in the consulting rooms and can access your results directly. Should you require a joint injection this may be performed at the same time as your consultation.
Out-patients run a weekly nerve conduction study clinic and we have facilities for application and removal of plaster casts.
Diagnostic tests and examinations
Your consultant may request a diagnostic test to assess your condition. Spire Manchester Hospital offers a range of diagnostic tests and scans including CT scan, X-ray, Ultrasound and MRI scans.
We have Specialist Muscular Skeletal Consultant Radiologists who will provide your consultant with your scan reports. We are able to take full length plain film scans for spinal cases and Orthoview, which is a programme that allows consultants to plan orthopaedic surgery using our PACS system. All our diagnostic imaging rooms are on the ground floor, we also have private changing room and aids available to assist movement onto beds and adjustable tables.
Theatre
If your consultant advises surgery then we have 4 theatres available two of our theatres have laminar flow – a constant stream/flow of air that provides a barrier from micro-organisms, used for all joint replacement surgery and major complex spinal procedures to eliminate the introduction of organisms that can cause infection especially in cases such as joint replacement where the bone is exposed during surgery. We have a dedicated specifically trained orthopaedic/spinal theatre team. Our theatres have a wide range of instrumentation and prosthesis to allow us to perform a large variety of orthopaedic and spinal procedures.
We have a fully accredited sterile services unit on-site which allows us to decontaminate and sterilize all are own instrumentation, giving all our instruments full traceability.
We have a plethora of up-to-date, state-of-the-art equipment including operating tables that allow safe and comfortable positioning for all orthopaedic procedures, high definition cameras and monitors allowing accurate precision in procedures and the examination into a joint space e.g. knee arthroscopy.
Physiotherapy
Our physiotherapy team have well established relationships with our orthopaedic consultants to ensure the continuity of care for all our patients. We have a sports injuries clinic offering a joint appointment with a specialist sports physician and physiotherapist with rapid access to diagnostic facilities.
All our physiotherapy staff are experienced and well trained. We offer acupuncture treatment and we have on site gym facilities. The physiotherapy department benefits from direct access to out-patients, diagnostic facilities, wards and consultants.
