For many women enhancing the size and/or shape of their breasts can be something they have always dreamed of. Breast enlargement, also known as breast augmentation, uses breast implants to help women achieve larger, fuller and firmer breasts - depending on the desired outcome. This surgery is an option for many women who are unhappy for any number of reasons, or if their breasts have changed over time, after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss.
Implants come in a variety of shapes, sizes and firmness, your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise you on which implant would achieve the result that you are looking for.
Breast implant removal
If you have previously had breast implants but for any reason you have decided you do not want them anymore, then breast implant removal is the surgery for you. There may be medical reasons for the implants being removed, or it could be personal preference. New implants can be inserted once the old ones have been removed if it is the size, shape or firmness that you wish to change.
For some women the problem can be that their breasts are too large, this can cause bad posture, back ache or embarrassment over them being too large, the answer to this is breast reduction surgery.
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, reduces the size of your breasts by removing some of the breast tissue. There are various ways to do this, but typically the excess breast tissue is removed through incisions on the lower part of the breasts and the nipples are moved to suit the new shape. The skin is re-shaped and the cuts are closed with stitches.
If your breasts have changed shape through age, weight loss, pregnancy or due to natural ageing, then a breast uplift can be the answer, it can improve the size, shape and firmness of your breasts.
Often a breast uplift, also known as a mastopexy, is performed at the same time as a breast enlargement or reduction to help achieve the shape and size you would like your breasts to be.
Inverted nipple correction
Most women have naturally protruding nipples, but for some women one or both of their nipples can be inverted, the best procedure to correct this is inverted nipple correction surgery.
Inverted nipples often occur during puberty and are related to short milk ducts, if this is the case then there is unliklely to be a medical problem. However, if the problem has occurred more recently you should see your GP straight away as there may be an underlying medical reason for the change.
