Liverpool’s leading Orthopaedic consultants launched a new £200,000 state-of-the art centre. The Bone and Joint Centre will form an extension to the hospital. It will feature equipment including a premier mobile MRI scanning service and comprehensive diagnostic facilities.
A team of consultants specialising in all areas of Orthopaedics including joint replacement, sports injuries, upper and lower limb surgery will practice at the new centre. High profile patients include Liverpool footballer Jamie Carragher who was able to return to the game this month, three-and-a-half weeks ahead of schedule, after dislocating his shoulder.
His treatment was carried out by Mr Peter Brownson, a nationally recognised expert in arthroscopic shoulder surgery, and upper limb surgeon for Liverpool Football Club. The unique clinic will now have the capacity to treat up to 100 patients each week in its three consulting rooms.
Services include a sports injury clinic specialising in musculo-skeletal conditions. Mr Brownson said: “Although the Bone and Joint Centre was established in 2003, this extension to Spire Liverpool Hospital will allow us to treat many more patients than before, all in modern, bespoke surroundings. Our dedicated experts are able to offer a one stop shop for all Orthopaedic conditions, from consultations and diagnostic services to leading-edge treatment to aftercare, including our extensive physiotherapy service. This means that patients are dealt with safely and quickly and in most cases can expect a speedy recovery, as Jamie’s recent injury reflected.”
Liz Cousins, hospital director at Spire Liverpool Hospital, said: “Throughout the hospital, we pride ourselves on providing excellent quality of care. At the Bone and Joint Centre, patients have the peace of mind of knowing they are being looked after by a team of leading consultants. We are delighted to be able to extend this service and deliver it in a technologically-advanced, relaxing new centre.”
