Professional profile:

Rik is a graduate of Imperial College School of Medicine, London. He completed specialist training in trauma & orthopaedic surgery within the West Midlands Deanery. Here he developed a specialist interest in arthroscopy, knee surgery and sports injuries.

In 2008 he became a full member of the UK Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.

He was elected to the Fellowship in trauma & orthopaedic surgery - FRCS(Tr&Orth) by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2009.

Rik has completed advanced clinical fellowships in both sports medicine and reconstructive knee surgery at the prestigious Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada. These fellowships were recognised by the University of Toronto and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. During the fellowships he also gained valuable experience treating elite athletes from the NBA basketball league. He is currently involved with the London 2012 Olympic Games as a Sports Medicine Doctor.

Rik maintains an active involvement in teaching of trainee surgeons and has recently been an associate clinical tutor in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Warwick. He has published papers in multiple scientific journals and regularly presents at national and international meetings.

His current practice is based in the West Midlands specialising in knee surgery and sports injuries. He holds a substantive NHS consultant appointment at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

Personal profile:

In his spare time, Rik enjoys time with his family. He lives locally in Sutton Coldfield where he likes to explore the local restaurants. Travelling is a big passion. He is also learning to play the acoustic guitar and plays golf in the summer months.
